Protect Patient Privacy
At registration, patients are normally required to sign various pre-printed forms, with each generating a hardcopy duplicate that is processed and filed in the medical records or HIM department. If forms are misplaced or inaccessible, the patient must complete the same forms again. It can be difficult to secure hard copies as they move throughout the facility.

With Access e-Signature products, hospitals obtain a secure, legally acceptable patient signature on a tablet device, facilitating a one-time paperless admissions process that enhances the patient experience. Our e-Signature devices are supported by a software application that ensures tamper-proof encryption and authenticity of digital signatures and their associated source documents. This helps protect patient privacy and ensures compliance with HIPAA and Joint Commission requirements.

E-Clipboard
The e-Clipboard is a paper-based device, which is connected to a USB port on the registrar’s computer.  At admission, the registrar prints the appropriate forms in a form packet, and the top form is usually a patient consent form. The registrar slips the packet under the lever of the clipboard and hands it over for the patient to sign.  When the patient signs the paper form in the typical manner, the captured signature shows up on the registrar’s screen.  The patient is given the paper copy with their signature on it.  Many customers and patients like the e-Clipboard because you still get the familiarity of “ink on paper” but also a secure electronic signature.

E-Signature Pad
The LCD paperless module is an e-signature device for those who do not want to print forms.  With LCD there are two screens: the one the registrar looks at and the one the patient looks at.  The registrar brings up the forms the patient needs to sign and inputs the patient’s information. He or she then hits an active key that brings up the form on the screen for the patient to see.  This way, the patient has a chance to read the form before signing.  Then the patient then signs their name on a 4x5 LCD pad, and both the registrar and the patient can see the signature appear in the form.  Finally, the registrar hits the active key again. The patient’s screen goes blank, but all the information is still on the registrar’s screen.

Tablet PC
The tablet PC offers a way to capture signatures at patients’ bedsides.  It was created because many hospitals offer tablet PCs up on the floors and wanted to be able to captures signatures electronically at bedside, known as bedside consent.  Between 50 and 80 percent of all consent forms that are signed in the hospital are signed in this manner.

The tablet PC is the only e-signature device that is not connected by cord/USB to a computer.  The tablet PC utilizes Access’s e-Forms Repository at any nurse’s station to bring up forms that patients need to sign at bedside.  Following signature, the nurse can also go back to his or her station and print the patient a copy of the form they just signed.
