Electronic Health Record

The Power of True Integration
The Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is typically contained across numerous systems in a facility. The output from these systems (COLD or printed) is generally not standardized, leading to slow, laborious searching for required information. If the information needs to be consolidated into an Electronic Health Record (EHR) or Legal Health Record (LHR), this is often a manual and cumbersome process resulting in a record in multiple, disparate formats.

When used in conjunction with the data formatting capabilities of the Access Patient Flow System (PFS), the Access Image Portal allows the output of disparate EMR systems or applications to be reformatted into a standardized presentation and ported automatically into a document management application. This enhancement automates what is traditionally a tedious manual process.  Documents are auto-indexed into the correct portion of the patient’s EHR, eliminating filing and manual indexing errors.

The Image Portal also provides the ability to notify EMR systems any time a form is printed with a barcode for a patient. The EMR system can then automatically create a missing document deficiency that will be resolved when the form is scanned in.  An audit trail of the form is also generated, listing time, date, workstation and user that printed the form for the specific patient. This assists in internal and external audits.

The Universal Image Portal (UIP) from Access can be added to the process to accept input from most medical devices such as EKG machines and glucometers. The UIP can port this information directly into document management systems and auto-index it into the patient’s record. This eliminates the need for scanning and manual data entry, which is error-prone and time-consuming.
